Ένα από τα πιο αγαπημένα τραγούδια που τραγουδούσαν οι Ιταλοί στρατιώτες στην Κάρπαθο ήταν το “O sole mio”, το πολύ γνωστό ναπολιτάνικο τραγούδι που γράφτηκε το 1898. Οι στίχοι του στη ναπολιτάνικη διάλεκτο γράφτηκαν από τον Giovanni Capurro και τη μουσική συνέθεσαν οι Eduardo di Capua και Alfredo Mazzucchi.
Όπως φανερώνει ο τίτλος, το τραγούδι απευθύνεται και αποτελεί ύμνο προς τον Ήλιο και στην ηλιοφάνεια που κυριαρχεί στο μεγαλύτερο διάστημα του χρόνου στη Νεάπολη και γενικά στην Νότιο Ιταλία, όπως και στην Κάρπαθο που βρίσκονται οι Ιταλοί στρατιώτες. Οι στίχοι έχουν μεταφραστεί και σε άλλες γλώσσες. Στο τέλος του άρθρου παρατίθεται το “O sole mio”, στη Ναπολιτάνικη διάλεκτο και σε ελεύθερη μετάφραση στα Ελληνικά και Αγγλικά.

One of the most favorite songs sung by the Italian soldiers in Κarpathos was “O sole mio”, a well-known Neapolitan song written in 1898. Its lyrics in the Neapolitan dialect were written by Giovanni Capurro and the music was composed by Eduardo di Capua and Alfredo Mazzucchi.
As the title indicates, the song is addressed and is a hymn to the Sun and to the sunshine that dominates most of the year in Naples and in general in Southern Italy, as well as in Karpathos where the Italian soldiers are located. The lyrics have been translated into other languages. At the end of the article, “O sole mio” is quoted in Neapolitan dialect and in free translation in Greek and English.
