Ο βουλευτής Τζέρολντ Νάντλερ, βουλευτής επί περίπου 30 χρόνια, επιβλήθηκε της βουλευτού Κάρολιν Μαλόνι σε μια ασυνήθιστη «μονομαχία» στη Νέα Υόρκη στο πλαίσιο των προκριματικών εκλογών του Δημοκρατικού Κόμματος, όπως μεταδίδει το πρακτορείο Reuters επικαλούμενο το αμερικανικό δίκτυο NBC.
Η συγκεκριμένη αναμέτρηση μεταξύ δύο πολύπειρων Δημοκρατικών βουλευτών προέκυψε ύστερα από την αναδιάταξη του εκλογικού χάρτη στην πολιτεία της Νέας Υόρκης, που τους υποχρέωσε να διεκδικήσουν την ίδια έδρα στην αμερικανική Βουλή των Αντιπροσώπων.
Ο 75χρονος Νάντλερ εμφανίζεται ως φαβορί απέναντι στον Ρεπουμπλικάνο αντίπαλό του στις εκλογές της 8ης Νοεμβρίου.

You see, even if our state grew, other states in the south and west experienced even more rapid growth. Still, the issue of rejuvenation was postponed for another year; after all, our nation needs a new class of progressive leaders and hanging onto septuagenarians for a quick fix doesn’t resolve the problem. Meanwhile, the seat is safely Democratic, with the need to replace many more reactionary members of my nominal Republican Party more imperative than ever on November 8.
