Ψυχοσάββατο στον ναό των Αγίων Αικατερίνης και Γεωργίου στην Αστόρια, με μνημόσυνο για τους χιλιάδες ανθρώπους που σκοτώθηκαν και συνεχίζουν να σκοτώνονται στη Γάζα. Το μνημόσυνο έγινε με παρουσία του Ζόχραν Μαμντάνη, πολιτειακού βουλευτή της Αστόριας (36η εκλογική περιφέρεια) της Νέας Υόρκης, καθώς επίσης και των Φίλων της Νέας Αριστεράς Αμερικής.
Η Αστόρια, όπως αναφέρεται στην σχετική ανακοίνωση τύπου, είναι σήμερα η περιοχή στη Νέα Υόρκη όπου η Ελληνική κοινότητα έχει ακόμα τις αναφορές της αλλά και συμβιώνει με άλλες εθνότητες από όλο τον κόσμο όπως και με μεγάλο μέρος μεταναστών από την Μέση Ανατολή.
Ο ναός των Αγίων Αικατερίνης και Γεωργίου βρίσκεται ακριβώς απέναντι από ένα μουσουλμανικό τέμενος. «Θέλουμε να γνωρίζουν οι γείτονες μας ότι νοιαζόμαστε και θρηνούμε για αυτό που συμβαίνει σήμερα στη Γάζα», λέει η Μιχαέλλα Σιαμίλη, από την οργανωτική ομάδα..

Η Γεωργία Λιγνού, καθηγήτρια Ιστορίας στην Δευτεροβάθμια εκπαίδευση λέει: «Δεν έχει αξία να διδάσκουμε και να καταδικάζουμε τις Γενοκτονίες και τα εγκλήματα πολέμου αν όταν συμβαίνουν μπροστά στα μάτια μας δεν είμαστε ικανοί να τα αναγνωρίσουμε. Για τα εγκλήματα του Δευτέρου Παγκοσμίου πολέμου, οι άνθρωποι είχαν το άλλοθι της άγνοιας. Για μας που τα βλέπουμε κάθε μέρα στην τηλεόραση ποιο είναι το δικό μας άλλοθι; Κανένα.»

Really, how sad for humanity to hear from someone, who calls himself a Professor, any justification for the killing of more than 30,000 people mostly women and children, for the displacement and starvation of almost 2,000,000 people, for the 8000 hostages held in Israeli prisons many of whom are women and children! All done by the Israeli state machine in the 21st century! It couldn’t be more antisemitic than accusing people of standing against this genocide! And it couldn’t be more pro-American than Americans who stand for humanity and demand from their country not to be complicit in a genocide going on right now.
