Συνάντηση με τον Αρχιεπίσκοπο Αμερικής κ. Ελπιδοφόρο είχε σήμερα στο Μέγαρο Μαξίμου, ο πρωθυπουργός Κυριάκος Μητσοτάκης.
Στο πλαίσιο αυτής, ο κ. Μητσοτάκης επαναβεβαίωσε τη στήριξή του στο πνευματικό, κοινωνικό και εκπαιδευτικό έργο της Αρχιεπισκοπής και ευχαρίστησε τον κ. Ελπιδοφόρο για τις υπηρεσίες που παρέχει στην ομογένεια, ενώ συζητήθηκε επίσης το νομοσχέδιο για την άρση των περιορισμών όσον αφορά στη δυνατότητα των Ελλήνων του εξωτερικού να ψηφίζουν στον τόπο διαμονής τους.
Ο πρωθυπουργός εξέφρασε την αισιοδοξία του ότι θα είναι δυνατή η υπερψήφιση του νομοσχεδίου από περισσότερους από 200 βουλευτές, σημειώνοντας ότι η διευκόλυνση των ψηφοφόρων που είναι ήδη εγγεγραμμένοι στους εκλογικούς καταλόγους αλλά διαμένουν εκτός της ελληνικής επικράτειας θα αποτελούσε «μία επανάσταση για την πολιτική συμμετοχή των Ελλήνων του εξωτερικού στα κοινά της πατρίδας».
Ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Αμερικής συνεχάρη τον πρωθυπουργό για την εκλογική του νίκη κι εξέφρασε την πλήρη υποστήριξή του στο νομοσχέδιο, προσθέτοντας ότι «είναι κάτι που περιμένουν όλοι οι Έλληνες του εξωτερικού», ώστε να αρθούν οι σημερινοί περιορισμοί και να μπορούν να ασκούν το εκλογικό τους δικαίωμα από τον τόπο κατοικίας τους, καθώς θέλουν να συμμετέχουν στα κοινά της Ελλάδας.

This naked expression of anti-Semitism must be removed by repudiating that ballot, then apologizing to Israel and Jews everywhere! But, that’s what only great nations do; directly confronting their demons and conquering them. In a similar fashion, the spiritual leader missed the chance to herald the hope inherent in his name, Elpidophoros, by pushing for his Orthodox Church, after two millennia promoting and living the lie of Jewish complicity in the crucifixion, to alter its dogma removing the stigma to its reputation. Together, these men can help forge a new epoch of the Renaissance-Reformation-Enlightenment that Greek society tragically missed experiencing. Their meeting does not augur well for such a welcome, long overdue prospect. How long will generations of Greeks endure continued ignorance-intolerance-bigotry? Enough, I say, έλεος!
