Ένα εκατ. δολάρια στο «Endow AHEPA’s Journey to Greece» (Also in English)

ΝΕΑ ΥΟΡΚΗ. Οι δωρεές των ηγετών και των στελεχών της AHEPA από την 5^η και 6^η περιφέρεια της AHEPA που παραβρέθηκαν στο τιμητικό δείπνο προς τιμή του τέως ύπατου προέδρου Σάββα Τσίβικου ξεπέρασαν τις διακόσιες χιλιάδες δολάρια.

Ο τιμώμενος ανακοίνωσε την ίδρυση Αποθεματικού Ταμείου «Endow AHEPA’s Journey to Greece Program» και τόνισε ότι οι δωρεές ξεπέρασαν το ένα εκατομμύριο δολάρια. Και ασφαλώς αυτό αποτελεί μόνο την αρχή.

Ο κ. Τσίβικος, προ δύο ετών όταν ανέλαβε τα καθήκοντά του, έθεσε ως προτεραιότητα την ενίσχυση και διαιώνιση του πρωτοποριακού προγράμματος «Journey to Greece», το οποίο παρέχει την δυνατότητα στα παιδιά των ομογενών να επισκεφθούν την Ελλάδα και να παρακολουθήσουν το πρόγραμμα που έχει καταρτίσει το Πανεπιστήμιο Webster University (Webster Athens).

Την ίδια χρονιά αποφάσισε να αφιερώσει την χριστουγεννιάτικη γιορτή στην ενίσχυση του προγράμματος και συνεργαζόμενος άψογα με τα στελέχη και τα τμήματα της AHEPA και όπως έγραψαν οι «Αναμνήσεις» κατάφεραν να συγκεντρώσουν $626.000.

Παράλληλα έθεσε στόχο την ίδρυση και λειτουργία Αποθεματικού Ταμείου «Endow AHEPA’s Journey to Greece Program» και κατά την διάρκεια του εν λόγω τιμητικού δείπνου ανακοίνωσε την υλοποίηση του στόχου και τόνισε ότι οι δωρεές ξεπέρασαν το ένα εκατομμύριο δολάρια. Και ασφαλώς αυτό αποτελεί μόνο την αρχή.

Στο δείπνο παρέστησαν ο νυν και δύο πρώην ύπατοι πρόεδροι της AHEPA και συγκεκριμένα ο Κρις Κάιτσον, ο Γιώργος Χωριάτης και ο Νικόλαος Καρακώστας, αντίστοιχα, οι οποίοι ήρθαν να υπενθυμίσουν στους συνδαιτυμόνες ότι στην AHEPA ανήκουν στο «Εμείς» που έλεγε και ο στρατηγός Μακρυγιάννης.

Παρέστησαν επίσης και απηύθυναν χαιρετισμούς ο Επίσκοπος Ναζιανζού, κ. Αθηναγόρας, ο οποίος εκπροσώπησε τον Αρχιεπίσκοπο Αμερικής, κ. Ελπιδοφόρο, ο Πρόξενος της Ελλάδας στη Νέα Υόρκη, Πέτρος Δώριζας, ο γενικός Πρόξενος της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας στη Νέα Υόρκη, Κυριάκος Πογιατζής, ο τέως γενικός Γραμματέας Αποδήμου Ελληνισμού και Δημόσιας Διπλωματίας, κ. Γιάννης Χρυσουλάκης, ο πρόεδρος της Ομοσπονδίας Ελληνικών Σωματείων Νέας Ιερσέης, Δρ. Πάνος Σταυριανίδης, ο πρόεδρος της Ομοσπονδίας Κυπριακών Οργανώσεων Αμερικής, κ. Κυριάκος Παπαστυλιανού και εκπρόσωποι της οργανωμένης ομογένειας της τριπολιτειακής περιοχής της Νέας Υόρκης.    

Τον συντονισμό της εκδήλωσης ανέλαβε ο πρώην ύπατος πρόεδρος της AHEPA και πρώην πρόεδρος της κοινότητας του Αγίου Θωμά στο Τσέρι Χιλ της Νέας Ιερσέης, Γιώργος Χωριάτης, ο οποίος εξήρε την προσφορά του τέως ύπατου προέδρου Σάββα Τσίβικου, στην ομογένεια και τον ηγετικό του ρόλο στον αγώνα για την προάσπιση των συμφερόντων της ομογένειας και της Ελλάδας, την επίλυση του Κυπριακού και των δικαιωμάτων Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου.

Τον τιμώμενο παρουσίασαν ο γιος του Ευάγγελος Τσίβικος και η σύζυγός του Μαρία Τσίβικου, ενώ το βραβείο απένειμε ο διάδοχός του Κρίς Κάιτσον.

Testimonial for Immediate PSP Savas Tsivicos A  Success

Breaks One Million Dollars Raised for AHEPA Journey to Greece – Receives AHEPA Defender of Hellenism Award

On December 27, 2025, AHEPA held a testimonial Gala honoring its immediate Past Supreme President Savas Tsivicos at The Graycliff  in Bergen County, New Jersey. Members of the AHEPA family, including its global leadership as well as leadership of the Daughters of Penelope, Maids of Athena, Sons of Pericles were in attendance. They were accompanied by many members of other Hellenic organizations, well wishers, donors to the Journey to Greece Program and former student attendees of the program itself.  

The evening program was in fact a benefit to endow  AHEPA’s Journey to Greece program. During his two tenure at the helm of AHEPA, the past president made it a priority to ultimately raise over one million dollars to endow the program for future generations.

The program is for students earning college credit while in Greece through AHEPA’s affiliation with Webster University. The amount of students in this program has increased over the years as AHEPA provides the cost of housing and tuition and encourages students to attend during the summer.

Savas’ assistance to Journey to Greece came in the form of soliciting donations from many family, friends and institutions, notably AHEPA Housing and on the heels of a $200,000 grant last year from Ahepan Tassos Efstratiades, Esq. At the conclusion of the evening, and as the result of the kindness of so many, AHEPA  through Savas’ efforts, was successful in reaching the One Million Dollar mark in funds raised.

Savas hails from the Asbury Park chapter of AHEPA, which is named the Thomas Edison Chapter 287.

His Grace Bishop Athenagoras started a long line of well wishers, offering the congratulations of the Greek Orthodox Church.  Thereafter the host Asbury Park chapter offered heartfelt  remarks through its President Dimitris Geneas.

Many others came to the podium to express their appreciation of Savas’ efforts, including Nick Larigakis of AHI, Panos Stavrianides of the NJ Hellenic Federation  and of course, Kyriakos Papastylianou of the Federation of Cypriot American Organizations. John Chrysoulakis, Greece’s former Secretary General for Greeks Abroad also gave a moving tribute to the honoree in a special appearance. 

AHEPA was also honored to have at the evening Gala Petros Dorizas, Consul from the Consulate General of Greece in New York and Kyriakos Pogiatzis, Consul General, Republic of Cyprus in New York as speakers. They both spoke eloquently on Savas’ service to Hellenism and AHEPA throughout his life.  

The Sons of Pericles and the Maids of Athena came to the podium in the form of Sons Supreme Vice President George T Horiates and Past Maids Grand President Mariana Pantelous.

Noting the upcoming Centennial celebration of the Sons of Percles, the Sons Vice President brought Savas forward and presented him with a special commemorative 100 Year Anniversary Sons of Pericles pin, noting that many members of the Junior Orders also have been beneficiaries and have attended the Journey to Greece program. 

They were followed by a tribute from Past Supreme Governor Phil Vogis and former AHEPA Board member Vassos Chrysanthou.

Past Grand President of the Daughters of Penelope Margaret Dritsas and Past AHEPA Canadian President Emmanuel Constas were brought forward. They traveled often with the Supreme President during his tenure and shared stories of brothers and sisters working together for Hellenism.  

AHEPA Supreme President Chris Kaitson was the keynote speaker. He told the audience of Savas’ dedication to Hellenism from the perspective of having served as his Vice President. He noted AHEPA’s appreciation as the Journey to Greece fundraising continued after Savas’ term, stating the importance of continuing the dedication to Hellenism that is the hallmark of the honoree.

Then he called up the honoree along with his Supreme Lodge: Vice President Zenon Christodoulou, Treasurer Themis Frangos, Supreme Governor Dean Moskos as well as Past Supreme Presidents former Board Chair Nicholas Karacostas and current Vice Chair George G Horiates, who also served as Master of Ceremonies.

AHEPA Supreme President Chris Kaitson presented its immediate Past President with AHEPA’s  Defender of Hellenism Award to rousing applause. 

Maria Tsivicos, the wife of the honoree spoke and introduced their son, Evangelos Tsivicos to introduce the honoree. It was a heartlfelt tribute by the Tsivicos family to Savas.

He was brought up for his response to a standing ovation as the DJ played his favorite song, Ehi Ena Fengari Apopse.

Thereafter Savas offered gracious remarks on the responsibility to all of us in passing the flame of Hellenism to future generations.

He thanked the well wishers and attendees as well as the long list of various contributors to Journey to Greece, noting each from the evening program. Various donors presenting checks and Journey to Greece participants expressing appreciation came forward to the microphone on a brilliant night for AHEPA.
