ΝΕΑ ΥΟΡΚΗ. «Στον Φαρμακοποιό της Αστόριας», όπως είθισται να αποκαλούν οι ομογενείς τον Δρα Νικόλαο Παπαϊωάννου επανήλθαν εκ νέου τα ηνία του κοινοτικού συμβουλίου του Καθεδρικού Ναού του Αγίου Δημητρίου της Αστόριας.
Ο Δρ. Νικόλαος Παπαϊωάννου διετέλεσε πρόεδρος το 2023 και το βράδυ της Τρίτης, 20ής Ιανουαρίου 2026 εκλέχτηκε πρόεδρος του κοινοτικού συμβουλίου για το έτος 2026.
Η εκλογή του έγινε κατά την διάρκεια της πρώτης συνεδρίασης του εκλεγμένου συμβουλίου και αμέσως μετά την ορκωμοσία.
Στη συνεδρίαση παρέστησαν ο Επίσκοπος Ναζιανζού, κ. Αθηναγόρας, ο οποίος ανέπεμψε και την προσευχή, συνεχάρη τους εκλεγμένους και ευχήθηκε επιτυχίες τόσο στον ιερατικό προϊστάμενο, π. Ανάργυρο Σταυρόπουλο, όσο και στο ίδιο το συμβούλιο.
Μετά την ορκωμοσία εκλέχτηκε το προεδρείο το οποίο απαρτίζεται από τους Γεώργιο Κρητικό, αντιπρόεδρο, Gabriela Labouriau, γραμματέα και Σταύρο Λιβανό, βοηθό ταμία.
Μέλη του συμβουλίου εκλέχτηκαν οι Elaine Allen, Dimitra Argyros, Ioannis Banasios, Menelaos Belitsis, George Christides, Jenny Emexezidis, Larry Hatzoglou, Maria Kitsios, George Masouridis, Ionas Melitis, Markela Paros, Parthena Psyllos, Gary Sideris, Konstantinos Soukeras, Ioannis Stroumbakis και Athanasios Tentolouris.
Ο Δρ. Νικόλαος Παπαϊωάννου, όπως έγραψαν οι «Αναμνήσεις», είναι γέννημα και θρέμμα της Αστόριας. Είναι ταυτόχρονα απόφοιτος του Ελληνικού Απογευματινού Σχολείου του Αγίου Δημητρίου της Αστόριας.
Τo 2003 αποφοίτησε από την Φαρμακευτική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου LIU στο Μπρούκλιν. Τα πρώτα χρόνια εργάστηκε σε νοσοκομεία και διάφορα φαρμακεία.
Στις αρχές του 2015 άνοιξε το δικό του φαρμακείο στην Αστόρια. Πρόκειται για το «Crescent Apothecary», στη διεύθυνση 25-01 Ditmars Blvd, στην Αστόρια το οποίο διακρίνεται για την φιλανθρωπική δράση και κοινωνική προσφορά.
Ο Δρ. Νικόλαος Παπαϊωάννου είναι νυμφευμένος με την Ελένη, το γένος Μανή, με την οποία έφεραν στον κόσμο τέσσερα τέκνα και συγκεκριμένα τον Βασίλη, την Σταυρούλα, τον Πέτρο και τον Ευάγγελο.

The Hellenic Orthodox Community of Astoria held its first Parish Council meeting of the new year on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, marking the formal beginning of the 2026 term of service for the Community’s elected leadership.
The meeting opened with prayer led by Bishop Athenagoras, invoking God’s guidance, wisdom, and blessings upon the work of the Parish Council and the life of the Community. This was followed by the official administration of the oath of office to the members of the 2026 Parish Council, affirming their commitment to serve faithfully, responsibly, and in accordance with the mission and traditions of the Orthodox Church and the Community.
Following the oath of office, elections were conducted for the Executive Board. Nominations were made in good order, duly seconded, and carried out in a spirit of cooperation and unity.
Mr. Nick Papaioannou was elected for the position of President by the Council to serve in this role for the 2026 term.
The Hellenic Orthodox Community of Astoria extends its warm congratulations to the newly elected President and Executive Board, and expresses its sincere appreciation to all Parish Council members for their willingness to dedicate their time, talents, and energy to the service of the Community.
The Community also offers its best wishes to the entire leadership team, together with their Proistamenos Rev. Fr. Anargyros Stavropoulos for a year filled with blessings, and meaningful progress.
As the Community begins a new year of ministry and service, it looks forward with hope and confidence to continued growth, strengthened stewardship, and a shared commitment to the spiritual, educational, and philanthropic mission that has long defined the Hellenic Orthodox Community of Astoria.
